Gerta shared these top negotiation tips on Business Insider
Some quick thoughts on playing hard to get and who should make the opening move in a negotiation.
I (Gerta) just found out I was featured in Business Insider again! Highly recommend setting a Google Alert for yourself and the important people in your life to see what the web is saying about you in real time.
A few quick things I want to emphasize from my quotes in the article (see article screenshots below):
Negotiating with a collaborative tone and showing genuine excitement are not only the right thing to do but also very high-leverage. They keep the relationship strong and positive, and give you more room to move.
Also, a quick thoughts about numbers: I always recommend letting the other side go first. If you give a number or a range and the number or the bottom of your range falls below the top of their budget, you’ll leave money on the table. And if it lands well above it, you can come across as entitled and potentially damage the relationship.
I’m very grateful to Business Insider for sharing these insights from me and the other coaches to the people who need them right now.
